Frequently Asked Questions

Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most common medical therapies used in the world. Due to its efficacy it is becoming more and more popular in our society. It consists of the insertion of very thin sterile and disposable needles at specific acupuncture points to heal and relieve pain.

Acupuncture point injection is a technique that combines acupuncture with the injection of substances into specific acupuncture points. It is a relatively modern approach that integrates the principles of traditional acupuncture with the use of pharmacological agents for therapeutic purposes.

A small needle is inserted into an acupuncture point, and a medication or therapeutic substance is injected into the point. The choice of substances can vary and may include vitamins, ultra-high dilution remedies, herbal extracts, saline solution, or low-dose pharmaceutical drugs. The specific substance used depends on the condition being treated and the desired therapeutic effect.

Sports Medicine Acupuncture is a synergistic blend of the ancient techniques of Traditional Chinese Medicine, modern sports science and assessment and specialized treatment modalities. It is a comprehensive and intelligent approach to treating pain, sports injuries, work injuries and postural imbalances, as well as promote enhanced athletic performance and improve range of motion.

Needling acupuncture points stimulates the release of chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord and brain. These chemicals can either change the experience of pain or trigger the release of chemicals and hormones which influence the body's own internal regulating system.

Acupuncture is not painful. During initial insertion, you may feel a minor tingling until the needle reaches the correct depth under the skin. Sometimes a brief sensation of heat is felt momentarily. In most cases, patients do not even know the needles are being inserted.

Acupuncture is very safe when performed by a qualified practitioner. Acupuncture needles are pre-sterilized, individually packaged and disposable. Every practitioner receives extensive training in anatomy as to avoid inserting a needle in a place that can cause damage.

Acupuncture has withstood the test of time for millions of people. It is completely safe with virtually no side effects. After an acupuncture treatment, most people will experience a sense of well being, relaxation and often be energized.

Typically acupuncture treatments are given 1-3 times per week. The exact duration of treatment depends on your condition, your basic level of health and how well you respond to acupuncture. Usually frequent treatments are done for the first few weeks; after that, the frequency of treatment may be reduced as your health is restored.

Try to arrive on time or a little early to be sure your entire experience is soothing. It is best to have a light meal prior to your appointment.
